A school maintenance checklist is a prompt for recording visible condition, not a certificate that a building or system is safe or compliant. Adapt it to the campus, approved procedures and people responsible for facilities. Do not climb roofs, touch exposed wiring or enter restricted areas.
Record context with each observation
For each item, note the building or room, what is visibly wrong, when it was noticed, whether access needs review and who should decide the next step. Take photographs only where permitted and safe. Separate immediate concerns for school escalation procedures from planned repairs, cleaning and monitoring.
The checklist is intentionally visual. It does not inspect concealed services or replace qualified assessments. The Ministry/UNICEF National Safe Schools Framework provides broader context on child-friendly school infrastructure; local requirements and school policies remain the authority for each facility.
Group related items by site and work area. A school can request a paid Property Health Check for agreed accessible areas; scope, fee and timing are confirmed first. Suitable repairs, upholstery cleaning and larger projects are reviewed separately. See school facility maintenance in Windhoek or use the printable Windhoek property checklist.
