What happens after a property repair claim is approved?

Property Restoration

After an insurer confirms the repair route, the next step is to agree the physical repair scope, access, responsibilities and required approvals. An insurer or authorised claims professional—not the repair contractor—decides coverage, liability and settlement. Each policy and insurer has its own process.

Confirm what has actually been approved

Ask the insurer, broker or assessor to clarify which damage and repair items are authorised, who may approve changes and whether a contractor quotation or specific documentation is required. Keep a copy of the instruction. Do not treat an assessment, estimate or request for quotation as authority to begin work.

Define the reinstatement scope

The property owner and repair coordinator can record the affected areas, visible damage, access constraints and work required. Depending on the property, the scope may involve more than one trade. Any specialist, regulated or safety-critical responsibilities should be assigned to appropriately qualified professionals.

Agree quotation, timing and records

Review the quotation against the authorised work and ask how changes will be handled. Confirm access, timing and what completion records are required before scheduling. Any additional or hidden damage should be referred back to the party authorised to approve the claim scope before extra work proceeds.

Keep roles separate

The insurer and authorised claims professionals manage policy interpretation, claim assessment, approval and settlement. A restoration contractor may coordinate and carry out approved physical repairs, subject to suitable capability and availability. Bliss reviews such enquiries case by case and does not decide whether a claim is covered.

Insurer instructions vary. Old Mutual Namibia, for example, directs some Allsure claimants to complete the relevant form or contact their broker; this is an example, not a rule for every insurer.
